Music
Music is one of the most important things in my life - it's fundamental to my happiness. When I was younger I watched my brother learning to play guitar and I always felt intimidated. I resigned myself to the mere role of music-listener.
Around 1998 though, that attitude changed. First I learned to whistle, something I could never do. Then I started playing didgeridoo. In August, 2000 I arrived in Madison, Wisconsin and things really started to change. I started playing Capoeira and that introduced me to the Handphibians - a Brazilian Samba Band. So I started learning rhythm. At the time of this writing, I've been in Madison for almost exactly a year and my musical ability and my entire understanding of music have been transformed - and I know this transformation will never stop.
As far as listening goes, I listen to about everything:
- In high-school it was classic rock, blues, and Bob Marley;
- In college I started to get into Jazz and some electronic music like Drum and Bass and Stephen’s stuff;
- In Switzerland I got into Goa Trance (a type of electronic music popular in the squat-bars) from a friend named Moa and Laury. I also started to listen to more Indian music
- In Madison, my “world music” collection exploded – 40 disks from Brasil alone, 25 from Africa, etc…
