Danielle my lovely wife

Danielle and I met in Madison playing Capoeira in the fall of 2000. Danielle had been playing Capoeira for a while and loved/loves to dance. She ended up teaching me about music and dance and introducing me to the Handphibians (a samba band based in Madison). After my first time at CERN, I had really become a "thinking" person and Danielle really challenged my "feeling" abilities. Music is a good example: I was thinking about time signatures and trying to approach it mathematically and she just felt the rhythm in her feet. When I finally stopped thinking and started feeling, music came much more naturally. At the same time I was trying to teach her about the mathematics of it all. That wasn't natural for her either, but she began to appreciate it. I think we are a great match that way. We lived together briefly on Mifflin St..

In the winter of 200, Danielle went to work in Brazil for an NGO by the name of Imazon with a Fullbright fellowship. She was gone for 11 months while I was in Madison. But I did visit for a month in the summer of 2001, and we had a wonderful time visiting 7 cities in Brazil (Photos, Static Page, Itinerary).

Finally, Danielle came back to Madison. I had found a nice 2 bedroom apartment on Emerald St. that had a nice big garden in back. That spring was wonderful. We played a lot of music, danced a lot, and played a lot of Capoeira. That summer my friend Stephen McCaul came to Madison to work with me on some projects, and Danielle and I pretty much stopped playing Capoeira and Samba and enjoyed all the parts of Madison we had not taken advantage of. The summer of 2002 was a wonderful time.

In August, 2002 Danielle and I moved to Geneva, Switzerland. Shortly before moving, I asked Danielle to marry me, and on August 9, 2003 we tied the knot (Photos). As I write this, I'm sitting in our little house in the cozy town of Choully. While I'm working to finish my Ph.D. at CERN, Danielle is working at the World Health Organization with the Web Team.
